Professor in Cyber-Physical Systems

RECAT – Research Center for Advanced Battery Technology is a new initiative at LTU aimed at strengthening education and research related to battery production and related activities such as supply chain and lifecycle management for batteries, vehicles, and other applications, including recycling and circularity. As part of this initiative, LTU is recruiting a professor focusing on digitalization, real-time control, and IT/OT integration for battery production, including digital twins, model predictive control, industrial IoT, and advanced automation architectures. The goal is to develop the next generation of production systems that are sustainable, data-driven, and scalable.
Subject Description
Cyber-physical systems focus on integrated software and application architectures with implementations of highly distributed embedded systems that interact with each other and their environment to enable secure, goal-directed, autonomous, and evolvable solutions.
Job Responsibilities
A professor should be engaged in education, pedagogical development work, and research at the university. Professors are expected to contribute to the university's development work, be responsible for obtaining external research funding for the subject, both nationally and internationally, and be available for management and administrative tasks. Additionally, a professor is responsible for leading and developing research and educational activities within the subject. Professors should also stay updated with the international development of the subject.
The professor's responsibilities based on scientific competence also include supervising doctoral students, leading research projects, and communicating related research results through high-quality scientific publications, as well as being active in the research community within the subject and participating in international networks.
Eligibility
Eligible for appointment as a professor is someone who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skill. Equal care should be given to the assessment of pedagogical as well as scientific skill.
To meet the requirements for appointment as a professor, the applicant must:
- be prominent in their field and demonstrate scientific activity of high international standard, showing a clear quality progression
- have a total scientific production that in quantity corresponds to at least three doctoral theses including the doctoral thesis
- demonstrate academic leadership, including experience in research-related trust assignments such as expert, opponent, and/or member of grading committees
- experience in leading research projects
- experience in competitively applying for and being awarded external funding for research projects as the main applicant
- experience in internal assignments within the university
- experience in pedagogical leadership
- have experience in supervising at the doctoral level and, unless there are exceptional reasons, have been the main supervisor for at least one doctoral student from admission to doctoral degree
- demonstrate pedagogical skill through reflective experience, teaching skill, and teaching development
- demonstrate the ability to collaborate with the surrounding community, including making new knowledge available to the surrounding society and incorporating societal needs into research and/or educational contexts.

Other assessment criteria (in order of priority):
- Documented scientific excellence in cyber-physical systems, automation, or related areas.
- Documented experience of applying these competencies in industrial contexts, preferably within manufacturing or energy systems.
- Strong track record of publications in internationally recognized journals and conferences.
- Experience in supervising doctoral students to graduation.
- Demonstrated ability to attract competitive funding.
Meritorious qualifications include experience in battery manufacturing, development of digital twins, IT/OT integration, or advanced model-based control.
